Home services SEO: how to choose the right search partner

A multi-brand, multi-location home-services group has to coordinate brands, domains, service-area pages, Google Business Profiles, local teams and reporting definitions. In a five-query US-English desktop review on 30 August 2026, all five core pages covered local search; only two covered service-area and location architecture. That measured content gap is the starting point for this page.

Source note: Caldrin reviewed one core result for each of five representative home-services SEO queries. The source roster was Blue Corona, Thrive, First Page Sage, GrewDev and BusySeed. The counts record whether a topic appeared, not whether the advice worked or how common the practice is across the market.

Choose the level of search partner your group needs

The right partner depends on the decisions it must own, the evidence it can provide and the point at which another specialist needs to take over. Define the engagement before comparing agencies.

This is Caldrin's selection model, not a ranking of agencies. A local specialist can be the right answer for a complex programme under one brand. Portfolio governance becomes relevant when a decision made for one operating company can damage or duplicate another.

Portfolio governance starts where vendor selection stops

Portfolio search governance is the method used when a search decision can affect more than one brand, domain, location or operating team. It records who can approve the decision, what evidence is required and where specialist execution begins.

Ask whether the current partner can answer four questions:

  • Which brand should own a service-and-market query?
  • Which evidence is required before an acquired domain changes?
  • Who owns the local listing, technical change or content work once the scope is approved?
  • Which denominator and review window decide whether the work continues, changes or stops?

This page stops at partner selection and engagement scope. The multi-location guide owns detailed location, review and Business Profile operations. The PE page owns portfolio approvals and acquisition evidence. The foundation-repair page applies the system to one category.

Use the governance map to test the proposed scope

If a proposed partner cannot name the evidence and handoff for a row, the engagement is not scoped tightly enough to approve work.

What Caldrin measures before recommending work

For a Caldrin proposal, the search baseline would separate each surface and preserve its denominator. A blended score cannot tell a buyer which partner or workstream should act next.

The baseline can include:

  1. Organic search ownership by query, landing page, brand and domain, with indexation and canonical conflicts called out.
  2. Local-search coverage by service and market, including whether a map pack appeared before a brand's presence is counted.
  3. Technical and on-page conditions that affect crawlability, indexation, page purpose and template quality.
  4. Google Business Profile ownership, service-area alignment and update rights where access and platform rules permit review.
  5. Authority evidence at page and root-domain level, kept separate from content diagnosis.
  6. AI-search observations only on compliant, repeatable surfaces, with provider failures and ungrounded runs retained.
  7. Conversion definitions that distinguish a form event or call from a qualified opportunity, booked job or revenue.

Before Caldrin proposes work, it would qualify the blocked decision, the person authorised to approve it and the evidence that would change it. Missing evidence stays missing.

What the 603 baseline proves

The 603 Basement Solutions baseline shows how local visibility can be measured at a resolution an operator can inspect. It does not show that Caldrin caused a ranking improvement.

On 9 August 2026, Caldrin ran eight service queries across 61 coordinate test locations in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. The raw export contains 21 unique town labels and 488 query-location points. A local pack appeared at 412 points. 603 appeared in the pack at 10 points, or 2.0% of the full grid.

Caldrin measured the grid again five days later. That movement remains excluded as an outcome because the window was short, there was no control and the change was concentrated in one keyword.

Keep local scope, website scope and reporting definitions connected

Ask who may change the Google Business Profile, which page represents the market and how real operating coverage is verified. If different teams use different market definitions, the scope needs an owner before routine listing or page work begins.

Technical work starts with a similar ownership question: which URL is authorised to own the intent, and who can change its indexation, canonical, redirects, internal links and template? Once ownership is clear, the right technical or content specialist can take the workstream.

The operating report should record each event definition beside its metric. A form submission remains a website event until CRM evidence establishes more; a call is not booked revenue. Organic and local visibility also keep separate denominators.

Authority work follows the diagnosis

In DataForSEO's vendor link graph on 30 August 2026, 35 distinct ranking pages in the five-query panel had a median of zero referring domains to the ranking page and a measured range of zero to four. This does not make links irrelevant and supports no quota. Root-domain authority, internal links and other unmeasured factors may still matter; the endpoint did not provide source-level link intersections, organic traffic or keyword breadth. Establish indexation and internal links before testing whether authority is the constraint.

Who Caldrin's home-services work is for

Caldrin is a fit when search decisions cross brands, domains, locations or operating teams and a senior owner needs the evidence written down before work begins.

Useful triggers include overlapping brand demand, location pages without market evidence, split Business Profile ownership, blended reporting scores and an agency roster where nobody owns the handoffs.

The fit is weaker for a single operator seeking routine listing management, a guaranteed ranking or a fixed volume of pages or links before the evidence is reviewed.

Request the qualified AI Visibility Report

The AI Visibility Report is free. A short qualifying form comes first. If the account fits, Caldrin measures the organic and technical baseline, runs the competitive AI-search sweep on the compliant surfaces named in the report, and walks through the findings live.

The report informs the first scoping decision: whether ownership, indexation and technical state, local coverage or an eligible AI-search gap needs attention first. It does not prove rankings, leads or revenue, promise inaccessible-surface coverage or guarantee acceptance into an engagement.
